Lotvin Family Gallery: Depth of Field Juried Photography Exhibition
EXHIBIT DATES: March 16 - April 8, 2026 at the Lotvin Family Gallery in Hopkinton, Massachusetts
This exhibit aims to honor the art of photography in all its forms, embracing the wide range of approaches and styles that photographers bring to the medium. By showcasing this diversity, we celebrate the creative spirit and the unique perspectives that make photography such a powerful art form.
The guest judge is Rebecca Skinner. She picked first, second and third place winners and three honorable mentions that will be announced at the reception on Friday March 20th 6-7PM.
I chose to submit 2 pieces from my Fluidity Series looking at the ebb and flow of ice. I chose “The Surface We Break” and “Nature’s Frozen Glass” because the depth of field is so strikingly different but they depict the same thing: the transition of water from frozen to liquid states.
A dramatic diagonal split creates a visual metaphor for the different spaces navigated by the LGBTQ+ & Disability community. The smooth expanse is melting ice, those that have let go and accepted that they contain many aspects of their identity. The side still frozen from an ice storm symbolizes the turbulent, but ultimately necessary exploration of the different parts of identity, that there is freedom, joy, beauty and vulnerability of living with true visibility. The frozen chaos would not be as stunning without the contrast of the smooth and flowing water. The line is not a barrier, but a site of acceptance and courage, where the choice to embrace the different identities and live in the parts of yourself that conflict is true freedom of expression.
